Whole lotta work for a whole little Apron.

I am sure many of you have experienced the very interesting phenomenon whereby you put in hours and hours of work and have little to nothing to show for it. Well, that has been my life for the past week or so.

What have I been up to you ask? Well, other than turning a number that is not too far off from 40! I have been drafting a pattern for an apron that I am hoping to be able to sell at a friend's antique store and craft fairs, farmer's markets, etc I am trying to strike that lovely balance of uniqueness and making a profit. You know, the fine line between getting paid NOTHING for my labour and making it worth my while.

I am having a difficult time of convincing the kids to leave me alone for more than 2 minutes at a time. Remember, my kids no longer need my attention and can be trusted to play two floors up but they would rather all gather and fight just outside my sewing room door in the 4 x 3 foot space at the foot of the stairs. GRRRRRRRR...

Here are some photos of my progress using the extremely cheap (in cost) fabric from Fabricland that I purchased earlier.

The top is from a pattern but the waistband and skirt portion are self drafted. See the difference between the top left bodice and the top right? One of them is the pattern, the other is how I will create a new pattern with other differences. Also, I don't like the overlapped front. It limits my trim options and I don't like being committed to buttons only, which is what the pattern calls for.

Fast forward 1 WEEK LATER (yup, it took me that long! thanks kids heheh) and here is my new bodice.

See all the trouble at the collar. Learn this lesson from me:
NEVER draft a pattern from a traced and used pattern while changing several features and seam allowances etc. NEVER

Below are three options on trim with scraps of whatever I could find. Obviously the real versions will have something less scrappy and more newish.

Bow if you please

Bow with trim

Bow with MORE trim (more IS the new less, isn't it?)

Keyute pocket (no, that is not where I will attach it!)

Oh, and on the Simplicity 2444 front.  Just the hem left, thank you very much.  The only problem... in it's unfinished state, it is the length I want.  More on that later!
